Swap two adjacent candies to line up three or more of the same colour. Matched candies clear, new ones fall in, and you score.
They create powerful special candies. A single well-placed special can clear far more than an ordinary match.
Clearing candies low on the board makes everything above fall, which often triggers free cascade matches you did not set up.
Sometimes it is worth waiting a move to line up a chain reaction rather than taking a small match now.

A cascade is when clearing candies causes those above to fall and form new matches on their own, chaining extra clears and points from a single move. Clearing low on the board makes cascades more likely.
