Rules & how to play

The goal

Falling blocks of different shapes drop from the top. Rotate and slide them so they lock together into full horizontal lines. A completed line clears and scores.

Controls

  • Left and right arrows move the piece.
  • Up arrow, or the rotate button on touch, spins it.
  • Down arrow drops it faster.

The game ends when the stack reaches the top and a new piece has no room.

Tips for a long run

Keep the stack flat

A bumpy surface leaves gaps you cannot fill. Lay pieces so the top stays as level as possible.

Leave a well for the long piece

Keep one column open on the side and slot the long bar in to clear several lines at once for big points.

Do not bury holes

Once a covered gap forms it is hard to clear. Avoid placing pieces that leave a hidden empty square underneath.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Block Drop?

Rotate and move the falling blocks so they fit together into complete horizontal rows. Each full row clears and scores points. The game ends when the stack of blocks reaches the top of the board.

How do you get a high score in Block Drop?

Keep the top of the stack flat, avoid leaving covered gaps, and keep one column open so you can drop the long straight piece and clear several rows at once for the biggest points.

Can you play Block Drop on mobile?

Yes. On a touch screen you get on-screen controls to move, rotate and drop the pieces, so it plays the same as using the arrow keys on a keyboard.
